In wet, hot (29°C) and humid (70%) conditions, Kaniskina dominated the event, leading Shemyakina by 20 seconds at 5Km (22:21), and almost doubling the margin to 44 seconds at halfway (44:33). Shemyakina was, in turn, almost half a minute clear of Vasco (45:53). The order remained the same for the rest of the race, with Kaniskina slowing up only in the last quarter, covered in 23:23. She won by 33 seconds from Shemyakina, while Vasco closed up to finish only five seconds behind the number two Russian. Fastest of all in the closing stages was Plätzer, whose final 5Km took just 22:38. The European Champion from Belarus, Rita Turova, had two sub 1:28 clockings in 2007 and the European Cup title under her belt, but scratched from the event for medical reasons.
