Overview by IAAF | |||
Spencer clocked a world-leading 52.79 four weeks before Daegu but the suffered an injury to her quad and groin and only made the final as a fastest loser and ended up with a poor lane draw given her condition. In the final, Demus and Spencer were out best and they were quickly joined in the lead by Walker. By the eighth barrier, Demus had a slight advantage over Walker, with Spencer in third but fading. Demus was a metre ahead at the last hurdle where Walker checked her stride. The American went a further metre ahead on the run-in. Antyukh caught Spencer in the last 10m to take bronze and leave the Jamaican in fourth place for the second successive championships. For Demus, it was a career peak: a US national record and the number three performance of all-time. | |||
