Overview by IAAF | |||
Solomon went out too quickly in the final, passing 200m in 23.59 according to the transponder chip in his bib. Virtually level with him was the Ethiopian junior Aman (23.62). The American slowed to reach halfway in 50.28, with the more than usually positive Symmonds beside him and Aman inches behind. Solomon still led at 600m (1:16.80) with Symmonds, Aman and Souleiman close by. Symmonds overtook his teammate with 100m remaining and briefly looked as if he would win, but Aman caught him with 40m to go and got home 1½ metres clear. Solomon went from first to sixth in the last 90m, with a transponder clocking of 14.74 for his final 100m compared with 13.35 by Aman. A lingering knee injury put defending champion and world record holder David Rudisha out of contention. | |||
