Overview by IAAF | |||
McLeod led initially in the final, then Shubenkov went from third to first in between hurdles four and five to win with his fastest-ever time. Parchment ran a superb second half, moving from sixth to second, just ahead of Merritt. The American won even more plaudits when it was revealed that he had been suffering with a diseased kidney. Four days later he underwent an organ transplant, the donor being his sister LaToya Hubbard. Cuba’s Orlando Ortega was 2015’s fastest man prior to Beijing with 12.94, but could not compete as he was in the process of gaining Spanish citizenship. | |||
