Overview by IAAF | |||
The Jamaicans were again at full strength with World Champions on legs one and four and new star Thompson on the third. Conversely, the United States were without their number one sprinter Tori Bowie, who was taken out of consideration for the relay pool after missing two relay practice sessions earlier in the summer. Campbell-Brown gained over a metre on Gardner at the start. Morrison and particularly Thompson stretched the advantage over Felix and Prandini, leading by 1½ metres at the final change-over. In third was Trinidad and Tobago just ahead of the Netherlands, who botched their take-over and were disqualified. Fraser-Pryce gained over four metres on the anchor, with Jamaica running 41.08, the second-fastest time ever. | |||
