Overview by IAAF | |||
Bartoletta’s jump of 7.12 at the US Championships marked her as the favourite, and after a foul in the final she moved into contention with 6.95 behind the opening 7.01 of Španovi. In round three the lead was taken by Proctor, an Anguillan who had transferred to Britain in 2010. She set a UK record of 7.07 (7.17 from take-off), backing it up with 7.01 in round four. Bartoletta, now third with the same distance as Nettey, then used her 10.85 100m speed in the last round. She took off with 2cm to spare to land at a winning 7.14, a lifetime best. Španovi showed fine competitive spark in equaling her national record from round 1 with her last jump, but the day belonged to Bartoletta. Under her maiden name of Madison she had won 10 years earlier in Helsinki. No-one previously had waited longer than six years to win a second individual world title. | |||
