Overview by IAAF | |||
At the 2015 World Championships, Carter fell in the semi-finals. That moment was forgotten in London when she not only won the gold, but did so from lane nine, the first ever such victory in this event. Olympic Champion Muhammad was fastest away in the final, and led by a metre from Carter and Tracey at the first hurdle. By halfway the two Americans were clear, while Tracey came under threat from defending champion Hejnová. Carter took the lead after the ninth hurdle, and won as that lead continued to grow. Tracey held on to third spot and became the only Jamaican woman to win an individual medal at London 2017. “Going in lane nine, I had to go out hard”, explained the winner. “It was not a perfect race, but I am happy about it,” she reflected. | |||
