Overview by IAAF
On July 23, 2017, just three weeks before the athletes lined up, it was announced that “based on its wish to ensure gender equality on the field of play, the IAAF Council has decided to create a new 50Km race walk competition for women at the IAAF World Championships London 2017”. So for the first time, there would be the same number of world championship events for women as for men, 24. A strong advocate of this development was Talcott, who had competed as part of the US men’s team at the previous year’s World Race Walking Team Championships in Rome. Ironically she became the only walker disqualified in the race, only getting to the 10Km mark. Henriques and Yin passed halfway in 2:02:18, and the Portuguese athlete drew away after 30Km, stretching a four-second lead at that point to 50 seconds by 35Km. It was only in her final 5Km (26:00) that Henriques began to slow noticeably, but she was still good enough to take her across the line in a world record of 4:05:56. 10 & 20 KILOMETRES, 10,000 METRES WALK Multiple Medallists: 4 Liu Hong CHN 09-2, 11-1, 13-2, 15-1 3 Valentina Tsybulskaya BLR 97-3, 01-2, 03-3 2 Kerry Saxby-Junna AUS 87-2, 99-3 Sari Essayah FIN 91-3, 93-1 Yelena Nikolayeva RUS 95-3, 03-1 Elisabetta Perrone ITA 95-2, 01-3 Olimpiada Ivanova RUS 01-1, 05-1 Most Finals/Placings in Top Eight: 5 Yelena Nikolayeva 87-5, 93-7, 95-3, 97-9, 03-1 Most Appearances: 11 Susana Feitór POR 91-17, 93-11, 95-17, 97-11h1, 99-4, 01-dq, 03-9, 05-3, 07-5, 09- 9, 11-4 National Placings: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Points CHN 4 4 3 1 - - 2 3 90 RUS 6 1 2 1 1 - 1 1 79 ITA 1 3 2 3 2 3 2 2 79 POR - - 1 4 2 1 2 1 42 ESP - - 2 2 3 - 1 1 37 BLR - 3 2 - - - - - 33 URS 2 - - 1 1 - - - 25 FIN 1 - 1 1 - - - - 19 AUS - 1 1 - 1 - 1 - 19 IRL 1 1 - - - - - - 15 ROU - - - - 1 2 - 1 11 MEX - 1 - - - 1 - - 10 SWE - 1 - - - 1 - - 10 BRA - - - 1 - 1 - - 8 CZE - - - - 1 1 - 1 8 GER - - - - 1 - 1 2 8 POL - - - - 1 1 - - 7 LTU - - - - - 1 2 - 7 UKR - - 1 - - - - - 6 NOR - - - 1 - - - - 5 GRE - - - - - 1 1 - 5 HUN - - - - - 1 1 - 5 COL - - - - 1 - - - 4 JPN - - - - - 1 - - 3 PER - - - - - - 1 - 2 CAN - - - - - - - 1 1 KAZ - - - - - - - 1 1 LAT - - - - - - - 1 1 Totals 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 15 540 364 DOHA 2019 PAST RESULTS/WORLD CHAMPS WALKS The Portuguese therefore earned a winner’s $60,000 plus a record bonus of $100,000. China took silver and bronze, with Yin setting an Asian record of 4:08:58. Burnett set an American record in fourth, the last woman to complete the distance. Da Rosa and Randall were ranked in fifth and sixth place after being officially required to withdraw. They did not achieve the prescribed time limit of 4:00:00 at 45Km. That placing was significant for the American. At 42, she became the oldest ever woman to place in the top eight at a World Championships.
